Keep Comfort Looking Its Best
A little everyday care can help your cushions stay fresh, inviting, and ready for all the moments that happen outside.
A Few Simple Habits Go a Long Way
Brush It Off
Remove loose dirt and debris before it has a chance to settle into the fabric.
Blot, Don’t Rub
For fresh spills, gently blot with a clean, dry cloth instead of rubbing the area.
Keep It Gentle
For general cleaning, use mild soap, water, and a soft-bristle brush or sponge.
Let It Air Dry
After cleaning, rinse thoroughly and allow the fabric to dry naturally in the open air.
Small Habits. Longer-Lasting Beauty.
Outdoor life comes with a little dust, pollen, and the occasional spill. Taking care of small messes before they settle into the fabric makes routine cleaning easier and helps keep your cushions looking their best.
Brush away loose debris regularly, and take care of spills as soon as you notice them.
The sooner you take care of a spill, the easier it usually is to clean.
Spills Happen. Here’s What to Do.
01 — Blot
Gently blot liquid spills with a clean, dry cloth. Avoid rubbing the fabric.
02 — Clean
Apply a mild solution of soap and water to the affected area.
03 — Rinse
Rinse thoroughly to remove all soap residue from the fabric.
04 — Air Dry
Allow the cushion and fabric to dry completely in the open air.
Small Note:
For oil-based spills, Sunbrella recommends first using an absorbent such as cornstarch before continuing with the normal cleaning process.
For a More Thorough Clean
When everyday care isn’t quite enough, Sunbrella upholstery can be cleaned using a mild soap-and-water solution and a soft-bristle brush or sponge.
For non-removable fabric, gently work the cleaning solution into the surface, rinse thoroughly, and let the fabric air dry.
Recommended Steps
- Brush away loose dirt.
- Mix mild soap with lukewarm water.
- Clean gently using a soft-bristle brush or sponge.
- Allow the solution to work into the fabric.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Let the fabric air dry completely.
Sunbrella recommends approximately 1/4 cup of mild soap per gallon of lukewarm water for outdoor upholstery cleaning.
Check Before Removing the Cover
Some removable Sunbrella covers can be hand washed or machine washed, but cushion construction can vary. Always check the care instructions for your specific Brush Valley cushion before removing the cover or placing it in a washing machine.
If machine washing is approved, Sunbrella recommends closing all zippers, using cold water, a delicate cycle, mild detergent, and allowing the fabric to air dry.
Important Note:
Do not assume that every removable-looking cover is machine washable.
DO
- Brush off loose dirt regularly.
- Take care of spills quickly.
- Use mild soap and water.
- Use a soft sponge or brush.
- Rinse away all soap residue.
- Let the fabric air dry.
DON’T
- Scrub aggressively.
- Use a hard-bristle brush.
- Leave soap residue in the fabric.
- Use heat to speed up drying.
- Remove or machine-wash covers without checking the product instructions first.
For best results, avoid abrasive cleaning methods and allow the fabric to air dry naturally.
Some Messes Need Extra Care
Sunbrella fabrics are designed to be easy to maintain, but dirt or other substances left on the surface can still contribute to mold or mildew.
For stubborn stains, mold, or mildew, use the appropriate Sunbrella cleaning method for your fabric and follow the product-specific care instructions before using stronger cleaning solutions.
